The Comet is a classic wooden roller coaster and is the second oldest ride in the park. It has an old-fashioned quality that none of the other coasters here have. It's top speed is 50 mph. While it is a fun ride, the thrill of this coaster fades relatively fast.
It's a 7 on a scale of 10.
The Great Bear is the first steel inverted looping coaster in the state. It has four inversions and a top speed of 61 mph. This ride is definitely not for those who have a weak stomach. The way the ride maintains a high speed is a major plus. The only thing keeping this ride from a perfect 10 is it's quick ride; it takes a mere 55 seconds to reach the brakes from the top of the lift hill.
It's a 9 on a scale of 10.
Another first, the Lightning Racer is the first wooden racing/dueling coaster in the nation. While other parks have wooden racing coaster, the fact that this one is dueling makes it an original. Its steep first hill accelerates the two trains to a speed of over 50 mph which is retained for a good portion of the ride. This ride offers many unique qualities and is a must-do for any park visitor.
It's a 10 on a scale of 10.
The sooperdooperLooper was the first looping coaster on the east coast. This ride has one vertical loop. It's a great ride for those who haven't ridden a looping coaster before. Another great feature of this ride is that lines are very quick moving and often very short. Its top speed is not the best but is enough to give a small thrill.
It's a 7 on a scale of 10.
The Roller Soaker is the only interactive water coaster n the northeast and is the newest attraction at the park. Riders travel suspended 50 feet above the ground at speeds of up to 20 mph. along a track 1300 feet long. The ride incorporates advanced technology to create an exciting and fast paced ride. Water cannons, geysers, and water curtains are guaranteed to get you soaked. While I am not a big fan of water rides, I encourage most people to ride it at least once. However, re-rides are not worth waiting in the long, slow-moving line.
The ride scores a 5 out of 10.
The Sidewinder is a steel boomerang style coaster that lifts riders up a hill and drops them into 3 inversions and up another hill before being dropped backwards through the same 3 inversions. Since this is one of the highest rides in the park, the view is excellent. Be sure not to eat too much before riding this coaster, because nausea is common. The track is a little rough but other than that this coaster's great.
It's an 8 on a scale of 10.
The Trailblazer is a steel mine train coaster. It is great for young kids who are scared of larger coasters. It has no true first hill and doesn't travel fast, so thrills are minimal.
It's a 4 on a scale of 10.
The Wildcat originally was the first coaster in Hersheypark until it was demolished many years ago. It was rebuilt in 1996 and has entertained thousands ever since. It is a wooden twister coaster. While its top speed (48 mph) is average, the fact that this coaster is wooden greatly amplifies the thrill. The only brakes are at the end, so the speed carries throughout. It is a great coaster, even though many people disembark with headaches.
It's a 9 on a scale of 10.
The Wild Mouse is a steel mouse coaster. Tight turns and steep (but short) hills make this coaster what it is. Its track design can be seen often on boardwalks and other beach-side parks. Its ability to thrill riders in a relativly small area is the reason it is built so often. While the design is copied, it is still a good coaster.
It's a 6 on a scale of 10.
